Hi All,
This is continuation of Power BI AI visuals which can be referenced here .
In this blog, I had explained Key Influencers visualizations and Decomposition tree visual
Microsoft Power BI has added a new visual in Power BI Desktop which your users can easily manage and and ask questions for your data.
Please note that its different from Natural Language Query (NLQ) which you were using in Power BI Service. This visual works on Power BI Desktop and best part is that you can use a question such as show me total sales by region and this visual can be added to your report.
What are Q&A visualizations?
The Q&A visual allows users to ask natural language questions and get answers in the form of a visual.

The Q&A visual consists of four core components;
- The question box. This is where users type in their question and are shown suggestions to help them complete their question.
- A pre-populated list of suggested questions.
- Icon to convert the Q&A visual into a standard visual.
- Icon to open Q&A tooling which allows designers to configure the underlying natural language engine.
A Power
BI end-user wants to query an item and not able to query from the
dataset once he got a red line and when he clicks on the red line, the
report designer name, Aroh Shukla is shown as below.
or
Show me total sales by people. (customer )
In the example, a user is searching for a sales but he does not know about the datasets and generally ask- The user can the report designer add this item as shown in screenshot above,
Now, you as report designer need to fix this issue. You need to open Power BI Desktop >> Drag Q&A visual >> Click on Gear Icon
- Clicked
on Review questions button where people have asked but could not get
correct answers for the data set. Note this feature is still on Preview and you
can watch a video about how it works.
- In the
managed terms tab, you will able to map of term and its definition.
- Publish
the report to Power BI service.
- You
can follow the same steps users asked for People which does not exist in
our datasets.
As Report designer, open it in PBI Desktop and click on the gear icon of the Q&A visual
- Clicked on Review questions button where people have asked but could not get correct answers for the data set.
- Publish
the report to Power BI service.
- Now,
when users type people, it will show the customer name as we have
trained the model.
